Wireless Broadband Frequently Asked Questions.

What is Wireless Broadband Service?  Isn't it the same as Satellite Internet service?

Wireless Broadband Service is a high speed internet service similar to DSL or Cable Internet service.  It is provided by installing a radio/antenna combination outside your home that is pointed to a broadcast tower nearby.  It does not use satellites to deliver the service so it does not suffer from the long delay called latency, caused by sending the signal great distances.  It also is not affected by weather the way that satellite service is.  Our service continues to work great during rain and snowstorms.

Will my phone line be tied up when I'm using the internet?  I don't have a landline phone, only cell phone service at my house.  Can I still get Wireless Broadband service?

Wireless Broadband Service doesn't use a phone line at all.  You can have any type of phone service that you want, or none at all.  We don't force you to sign up with the local phone company just to get high speed internet.

Since the service is wireless do I need a wireless card in my computer?

No, we deliver the service to your outside radio/antenna connection wirelessly.  There will be a network run going into your house that will hook to your computer or router.  You will need a standard Ethernet adapter in your machine to use our service.  This comes with most newer computers.

How fast is your service?

Our residential service gives you up to 2.0Mb/sec download speed and up to 256Kb/sec upload speed.  This is similar to DSL or Cable Internet service.

How much does it cost?

We have 3 service plans that are based on the amount of information that you transfer in one month.  The Standard plan is $39.95/mo and allows 5GB of transfer in your billing cycle.  The Advanced Plan doubles your transfer to  10GB/month and only costs $10/mo more at $49.95.  The Professional Plan allows 20GB of transfer per month and costs $69.95/mo.  If you go over on any plan you will be charged 40 to 63 cents/ 100 MB depending on your plan.

Why do you charge by bits transferred?  DSL and Cable have a flat monthly fee no matter how much I use it.

By charging by bits transferred we can offer you faster service at a lower price.  Many ISPs price their plans by the speed of the service.  With that type of service there is a built in limit to how much you can transfer because of the speed of the service.  By charging per bit even our lowest plan users will have their web pages load lightning fast, the same speed as the higher plans.  It also allows everyone pay their fair share for usage.  We don't charge extra for using our service on more than one computer at a time.  We have some businesses that have over 10 computers on our service that just check email and do some light web browsing. They are using the Advanced Plan and never go over.  We also have a couple of individuals who transfer a lot of files who are on the Professional Plan.  It all depends on how you use the internet.

How much is a GB?  How will I know what plan I would need to sign up for?

1GB is over a full cd's worth of information.  It is the equivalent of viewing approximately 10,000 web pages, 100,000 email messages (without attachments), or about 250 MP3 song downloads.  If you have only one computer and you mostly just browse the internet and send and receive text email messages then the Basic plan should suit you well.  If you like to download MP3's or watch a lot of streaming video then you will probably want the Advanced plan.  If you download movies, are heavy into MP3's, and like to download and try out quite a bit of software then you may need the Professional plan.  You can switch plans for your next billing cycle at any time.  So if you know you will need more transfer next month just switch plans before that billing cycle starts.

Do I need to buy any equipment?

We supply all equipment required to get internet service to a single point inside your home or business.  This equipment is leased to you for as long as you keep your service active.  We own and control all equipment used in delivering the service to you.  You don't need to worry about equipment failures or warranties since we are responsible for that part of the service.  If needed we can sell you a router/firewall to allow you to use our service on more than one computer at a time.  The router and any additional network runs are not included with the internet service, but can be purchased separately.  We are only responsible for the connection up to the router or single computer.

Is there an install or setup fee?

We don't charge a set up fee but there is an install fee.  The fee depends on the type of service that is required at your location.  The cost of installing basic 2.4Ghz service is currently $199.  We can do a free site survey and give you an estimate on what the install will cost.

Why is your install fee so high?  DSL and Cable give away their equipment for free and there is no install fee.

The phone company can subsidize the cost of your DSL installation through your telephone service.  We don't force you to sign up for a certain phone service or have a specific television package in order to get our Wireless Broadband service.  Our service is professionally installed to make sure it is optimized for maximum speed and reliability.  We don't want to frustrate you by shipping you a box of equipment with an instruction sheet for you to try and figure out how to hook up.  Our equipment cost is 3 to 4 times higher than what is used in DSL or Cable service.  The install fee helps offset some of that cost.

Is there a long term contract I have to commit to?

We don't tie you into a 1yr or longer contract like other providers do.  You can cancel our service at any time.
